Mission
Recent global developments have strained transatlantic relations. They also have heightened tensions in the political and economic governance of the EU and the US. The Good Governance Consortium addresses these tensions with an innovative interdisciplinary curriculum and other activities.
Curriculum
The Consortium promotes the transatlantic exchange of students in political science, business administration, public affairs, international, and areas studies. The curriculum includes a web-assisted transatlantic course on good governance, elective courses in the areas of political and corporate governance, as well as elective area studies courses, and language instruction. Fieldwork paves the way for internships and enhances career-placement.
Conferences
The project includes two interdisciplinary, international public conferences: at the University of Illinois in October 2004 and in Vienna in the spring of 2006. The first focuses on globalizing governance in the transatlantic context. The second focuses on the status of EU governance in the transatlantic context.
Communication
The Consortium web platform enables transatlantic communication between students, faculty, and the public. It will become an interactive resource for educators and its components models for interactive, e-governance information and communication. It also serves as a communication center for faculty and student alumni.
Partners
The GGC unites leading scholars in government and law, political science, public policy and administration, business administration, cross-cultural management, and area studies. Its members represent a broad cross-section of EU and US culture. EU partners represent it from north to south and are from old and new states. US partners are large and small, representing the eastern, mid-west and southern regions.
